And so we face the final curtain...

Time flew by... Almost a month has passed since we were at Seatac airport without knowing almost anything about this new panorama that unveiled in our very eyes the moment we got off the plane... We were strangers in a far away land... Now this far away land proved in many ways that when you are enjoying yourself so much, home is where you hang your hat... (Idiom hehe). It has been tough being away from the people that await for you at home, from the food you like and from the land that somehow, for good or for bad, has sheltered us every time....

But we return home renewed, imbued with all the powerful tools that Prof. Frieda armed us with... We return as better people and as better teachers or students. We return home, far far away, but with a piece of the city that so warmly welcomed us for all this weeks.

The most important thing I take from here is an example of how things get done the right way. Period.

How people should have the mind set to improve their suroundings. I really hope we can be like you seatlites back there in Mexico.

Visit to Fremont and Ballard Locks

Our trip today was to Ballard Locks... Its an enormous construction that allows ships to pass from salty water to fresh water in no time. Its free to see the Locks work so we could see how a couple of ships went trough. It was like the Panama Canal but in a smaller scale.

Among other things, the Locks are useful to protect an endangered animal... The salmon!! Salmons need to lay their eggs in fresh water so they need to swim up the current of rivers into their spawning places. The locks help them get upstream easily, so a lot more salmons can be born.

It was an interesting sight.

Unfortunately for certain circumpstances I was 't able to go to Fremont with the group... They say the troll is awesome and really big. 

There are some really amazing things in Seattle... I hope I can go to the troll before I leave to Mexico!

Burke museum and Bainbridge island

The burke museum is a really cool place to visit in Seattle! It has tons of incredible facts and it's also home to many fossils and very amazing antiques.

You can learm a lot from Seattle's geography and history, traditions and cultyres lo g lost, but remembered here. It has 2 floors and has guided tours, so you won't miss anything.

In the other hand, we also took the ferry to Bainbridge Island. The ride was fun and the ship is very big and comfortable.

Bainbridge island is a very beautiful place with lots of expensive-looking houses and cars. You can travel head to toe of the island by foot, and has some of the prettiest stores Ive seen in my trip to Seattle.

My weekend experience

This weekend I stepped in the shoulder of a gigant... Well at least in his gravestone... Aida and me went to the Jimmy Hendrix memorial!!!

He is such a great legend in the history of music. He is one of my favorite performers of all time so visiting his tombstone and paying him respects was very great for me. 

From our home it's a 2 hour ride to the grave site, taking 3 buses. It's a long time but the journey was very relaxed. From the house you take bus 71 to downtown, then you take bus 101 to Renton and finally you take the 105 bus to the greenwood memorial in Monroe ave. So it's not difficult at all.

The memorial is very clean and has several pictures and cuotes from Hendrix, and a sunclock... Also it has his autograph carved into the stone.

A unique experience it was!

Speaking with native speakers

Professor Frieda hooked us up today with some native speakers so we could practice our skills in pronuciation and final proyect interviews.

It was a fun experience because we could meet some new people, some of them very very funny and all of them very interesting.

We spoke about our project and they gave us amazing feedback in our questionsm so overall was a good experience.

Trip to the MOHAI

Last thursday We went to a field trip to a couple of museums, taking advantage that in Seattle that every first thursday of the montgs all museums are free!!!

The first one was the MOHAI... The history museum.

It was full of interesting facts about the different time periods of Seattle's history. Like the railroad start or the different World Wars... You can relive those periods by watching objects comimg directly from those epochs.

There were also an exhibit of high technology gadgets and ideas from the past that revolutioned our present and future.

Overall it was an excelent museum.

The second museum was Seattle Art Museum (SAM).

There were a lot of exhibits in form of art, including moden contemporary art. 

We learmed there about the different periods of time and the diferent tndencies of local and international forms of expressn.

In conclution it was a very educational and fun day.

 

Visit a coffeeshop

Today Armando and me visited rhe "Caffe Solstice" coffee shop.

First thing to notice is that it's very close tu UW in University Way, so its a 5 minute walk from there.

Its a very busy establishment, majorly becaise the coffee there, as we could taste, is really good! I tried a Caffe Macciato, and I liked it a lot. It's taste was very sweet...I didn't have to add any sugar!

The local Barista told us that the most popular coffee there eas the americano, but there are many choices besides that. 

You can enjoy a good cold or hot coffee every day... They open 7 days a week, but you may wait a bit because it's always very crowded.

I would recommend this coffee shop to everyone.
